Ageo City is located in the central-eastern part of Saitama Prefecture and is designated as a core city of Saitama Prefecture. Located within the Kanto Plain, the city is mountain-free and borders part of the left bank of the Arakawa River. The Kamo River and Shiba River flow through the center, the Ayase River to the east, and the Egawa River to the northwest. Long ago, Ageo-juku flourished as a post town on the Nakasendo road. In the Meiji period, Ageo Station on the Nippon Railway opened, and the city expanded. National Route 17 is the city's main road, with heavy traffic. Residential development in the northern part of the city has progressed rapidly, successfully creating a pleasant urban area. While residential development as a commuter town for Tokyo continues, agriculture is also thriving. The manufacturing of transportation equipment is also thriving.
