About Ichikawamisato Town
Ichikawamisato Town in Nishiyatsushiro County is known as a town of fireworks. During the Edo period, it was counted as one of Japan's three major fireworks displays. This traditional industry of fireworks production continues to this day, with fireworks being launched at the Shinmei Fireworks Festival held every August. The town is also famous for its handmade Japanese paper, and boasts the largest market share in the country for shoji paper, made using traditional techniques, making it a core part of the local industry. Local specialties include corn called Amaama Musume and kiwifruit called Rainbow Red. Both are precious specialties that are grown in only a few places in the country. Otsuka carrots are also famous, and a harvest festival is held every year during the harvest season.
