Nirasaki City is home to mountains such as Mount Houou and Mount Kayagatake, as well as rivers such as the Kamanashi River and the Midai River. It is bordered by three municipalities: Southern Alps City, Hokuto City, and Kai City. The city's official tree is the Japanese bush oak, its official flower is the safflower azalea, and its official bird is the rhododendron, a familiar bird that can be seen even in the city. The safflower is a deciduous shrub and is also designated as the prefectural flower of Gunma Prefecture. Famous sights in the city include Takeda Hachiman Shrine and Ganjoji Temple. The city also boasts a hot spring called Nirasaki Asahi Onsen. Its bicarbonate spring waters reach a temperature of approximately 40°C. Many visitors flock to see city events such as the Odagawa Firefly Festival and the Illuminations in Nirasaki.
