About Nanbu Town
Located in the southernmost part of Yamanashi Prefecture, Nanbu Town in Minamikoma District borders Minobu Town, Shizuoka City in Shizuoka Prefecture, and Fujinomiya City. The town is blessed with abundant nature, with the Sano River and Fuji River flowing through it and surrounded by Mt. Tomai and Mt. Shinoi. While shipping thrived during the Edo period, agriculture and forestry are now the main industries. Local specialties include bamboo shoots and Nanbu tea. The town is also home to many scenic natural sites, including the Fukushi River Valley, where visitors can enjoy stream fishing for sardines and other fish. The valley is also home to the Nanatsukamano Falls and Kazebuki Falls. Harama's Itozakura and Hongo's Senbonzakura cherry trees are also popular tourist attractions. In August, the Nanbu Fire Festival is held, during which fireworks called "Hyakuhachitai" are lit on both banks of the Fuji River, illuminating the night sky with brilliant colors.
