About Tambayama Village
Tanbayama Village, Kitatsuru District, is located on the northeastern border of Yamanashi Prefecture, at the northwestern tip of Kitatsuru District, in the southeastern part of the Kanto Mountains. Most of the village is forested, with settlements scattered on coastal terraces and slopes. The Tanbayama area is the village's center, and it borders Kosuge Village to the south, separated by the Myoken-Shikakura Ridge, a branch of the Daibosatsu mountain range, and the Enzan area of Koshu City to the west, separated by the Daibosatsu Rei mountain range. From the Sengoku period to the early Edo period, the village's main industry was slash-and-burn agriculture, although gold mining at the Kurokawa Gold Mine was also carried out. Later, with the development of transportation, sericulture, cultivation of konjac and wasabi, charcoal production, and lodgings also flourished. Village festivals include the Tanbayama Gion Festival and the Bon Odori Fireworks Display.
