About Ube City
Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is located in the southwestern part of the prefecture, adjacent to Sanyo-Onoda City and Yamaguchi City. During the Meiji period, it prospered due to coal mining. Formerly a village, it became a city in 1921. It is blessed with abundant nature, including mountains, rivers, and lakes. It also experiences relatively little rain throughout the year. Local specialties include Ube ramen, Ube kamaboko, and Akama inkstones. Tourist attractions include Tokiwa Park, home to the Coal Memorial Museum and Tokiwa Shrine, and a beach that attracts both locals and visitors from far and wide in the summer. Events include the Chugoku Yamaguchi Ekiden Race in January, and the Kusunoki Country Marathon and Okadaya Hyakute Shinto ritual in March.
