About Suo-Oshima Town
Suo-Oshima Town, Oshima District, located at the easternmost tip of Yamaguchi Prefecture, consists of Suo-Oshima Island, located in the western Seto Inland Sea, and five surrounding inhabited and 25 uninhabited islands. The inhabited islands include Suo-Oshima, Jojima, Ukishima, Okikamurojima, Kasasajima, and Maejima. Ferries operate between Suo-Oshima, and the section between Ibota Port and Matsuyama Port is also an offshore section of National Route 437. The town is relatively new, formed in 2004 by the merger of four towns. A row of cherry trees stretches along the prefectural road for 5 kilometers from Katasoegahama Seaside Park to Okikamuro, making it a famous cherry blossom viewing spot known as Gojo no Senbonzakura (Gojo's Thousand Cherry Blossoms). This makes the town bustling with visitors in the spring. Also, at the bottom of the Ryuzaki Promenade, you'll find a strange rock formation, hollowed out in the middle by wave erosion.
