Abu Town, Abu District, located in the northern part of Yamaguchi Prefecture, faces the sea and is a thriving fishing town. The only neighboring municipality is Hagi City. This area is home to sea urchin, wakame seaweed, and red sea cucumber. Pears, watermelons, and kiwifruit are also cultivated, with Fukuga pears being a local specialty. Popular tourist attractions include Nako Bay, which offers a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan; Mount Todake, 416 meters above sea level and designated one of Yamaguchi Prefecture's 100 famous mountains; and Hoshakuji Temple. Hoshakuji Temple is also known as the Lotus Temple for its many varieties of flowering lotus flowers. Other notable sites include the Tatara Ruins, designated a national historic site; Himejima, a small island designated a natural monument; Uda Hachimangu Shrine; and Nagasawa Pond.
