Nagai City, located in southern Yamagata Prefecture, is crossed by three rivers: the Mogami River, the Nogawa River, and the Shirakawa River. Beautiful flowers bloom throughout the city throughout the seasons, creating a picturesque landscape. Cherry blossoms, azaleas, and irises are in full bloom from spring to summer, making it a popular tourist spot. Nagai City has long flourished as a port town and a commercial and industrial center. During the Edo period, it was a trading city for the Yonezawa Domain, and manufacturing industries such as Nagai Tsumugi silk were also produced. Nagai Tsumugi silk continues to this day and is a specialty of Nagai City. Tourist attractions in the city include the Kubo Sakura in Isazawa and Nagai Ayame Park. The Nagai Triathlon and Nagai Tug-of-War tournaments are also held here.
