Tozawa Village, Mogami District, is located in northern Yamagata Prefecture, bordered by the Dewa Mountains to the west, the Shinjo Basin to the east, and the Mogami River through the center. The village's mountains include Mount Hiuchi, Mount Tachihara, and Mount Kenzaki, and its rivers include the Mogami River, Sakegawa River, and Kadokawa River. Long ago, the village flourished as a key waterway connecting the Shonai and Mogami regions. Today, the village enjoys a thriving tourism industry, thanks to the Mogami River Boat Ride, said to be Japan's largest, and Kusanagi Onsen. Tozawa Village was also the first municipality in Japan to introduce a health insurance system, and the village has a strong spirit of mutual assistance. This spirit has also influenced the village's education system, resulting in the creation of a unique educational policy. Major tourist attractions include hot springs such as Imagami Onsen, Kusanagi Onsen, and Noguchi Onsen, as well as Shiraito Falls.
