Sakegawa Village, Mogami County, is located in northern Yamagata Prefecture. The village is surrounded by the Dewa Mountains to the west, with the Sakegawa River flowing through its center. The village's name comes from the Sakegawa River that flows through its center, but it is also characterized by many salmon-related features, such as the historical site of Sakeishi and the local dish of freshly cut salmon. The village has long had a tradition of giving thanks to the blessings of heaven for salmon and trout. The village's main industries are agriculture and tourism, including Hanezawa Onsen, with nameko mushroom cultivation being particularly popular in agriculture.
