About Mamurogawa Town
Mamurogawa Town, Mogami County, is located in the northern part of Yamagata Prefecture, in the northern part of the Shinjo Basin. The Dewa Mountains stretch from the west to the north of the town, and the Kamuro Range of the Ou Mountains stretches to the northeast. A plain lies at the confluence of the Sakegawa and Mamurogawa Rivers. Murokawa Town serves as the northern gateway to Yamagata Prefecture. As most of the town is covered in forest, it has long prospered through forestry. Agriculture is the town's primary industry, and its rice and tarana sprouts have been well-branded. Major tourist attractions include Mamurogawa Plum Grove Park, Kanashiyama Prefectural Natural Park, home to some of Japan's largest collections of giant trees, the Nonomura Reservoir, a popular swan habitat, the Akiyama National Ski Resort, the Oi Tourist Warabi Garden, and the Shogenji Temple clay figurine, designated as a national important cultural property.
