About Mikawa Town
Mikawa Town, Higashitagawa District, is located in the northwestern part of Yamagata Prefecture. It is in the center of the Shonai region and is also home to the Shonai General Branch Office. The entire town is located within the Shonai Plain, with no mountains within the town. The urban area is concentrated near National Route 7 along the Aka River. The Fujishima River, which flows to the east, forms the border with Fujishima Town. The town is home to a number of large suburban shopping centers and the only cinema complex in the Shonai region, attracting many visitors from surrounding cities and towns. The town's name comes from the three rivers that flow through it: the Aka River, the Oyama River, and the Fujishima River. The fertile soil created by these rivers is located in the Shonai Plain, one of Japan's leading grain-producing regions, and boasts top-class harvests.
