Shingu City, known as the Land of Trees, is characterized by its warm climate. This allows for a comfortable lifestyle throughout the year. The region is home to the Otomatsuri Festival and the Whale Dance. The Whale Dance is a festival held at Miwazaki Hachiman Shrine, and is a unique dance that combines the act of spearing a whale with the Awa Dance. It has been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Wakayama Prefecture. One of the local dishes is Meharizushi, which is characterized by being wrapped in a Takana leaf and eaten with bare hands. Eating it outside creates a different atmosphere, making it even more special. There is also Sanma Sugata Sushi, which is a customary New Year's dish.
