About Minabe Town
Minabe Town in Hidaka County, which was formed through a merger in 2004, is 60% mountain forest. Farmland accounts for 20% of the land, and the surrounding area is filled with natural scenery. Plum trees, ubamegashi (Japanese bush warbler), and uguisu (Japanese bush warbler) are symbols of the region. As plum cultivation is thriving, the region's specialty is the thick, juicy Nanko plum. Kishu Binchotan charcoal production is also ranked among the top in Japan. The main tourist attraction is the Nanbu Plum Grove. This is the largest plum grove in Japan, and many tourists from all over the country visit to see the beautiful flowers blooming in spring. The songs of the uguisu (Japanese bush warbler) and yarrow (Japanese nightingale) also beautifully complement the scenery.
