Hirokawa Town, Arita District, Wakayama Prefecture, is located almost in the center of the prefecture, at the southernmost tip of Arita District. The town has a long history, believed to have begun at the Takashima Ruins during the Early Jomon period. Facing the Kii Channel, blessed by the Kuroshio Current, Hirokawa Town is known nationwide as a producer of Arita mikan mandarins. Tourist attractions in Hirokawa Town, Arita District, include the Hozoji Temple Bell Tower, designated as an Important Cultural Property of Japan, and the Inamurabi Museum, which displays materials related to Hamaguchi Goryo, the inspiration for the Inamurabi story. In June, visitors can also see many fireflies, attracting many visitors from both inside and outside the town. Local specialties include fruits such as mandarins and strawberries, as well as flowers such as roses and carnations.
