Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, borders Namekawa City, Nagano Prefecture, and Gifu Prefecture, and faces the Sea of Japan to the north. It has also been certified by the government as an environmental model city. Looking back at the city's history, the current "city" was formed in 2005 through a merger of seven municipalities.
