Located in western Toyama Prefecture, Tonami City is bordered by neighboring municipalities such as Takaoka City, Oyabe City, and Toyama City. Tulip bulb production is thriving here, and the Tonami Tulip Fair is held from April to May. In addition to tulips, Tonami Tulip Park offers seasonal flowers. Summer is the peak season for cannas. Elementary school students perform kabuki at the Demachi Children's Kabuki Float Festival, held in April. It has also been designated an Intangible Folk Cultural Property by Toyama Prefecture. The Shogawa Tourism Festival is held in June, and Sky Festival Tonami is held in October. Other tourist attractions include Yorinari no Mori Prefectural Park, one of Japan's 100 Best Forests for Forest Bathing, Kawada Hachimangu Shrine, Ogami Shrine, and the Masuyama Castle Ruins, a national historic site.
