About Kotoura Town
Kotoura Town, Tohaku District, Tottori Prefecture, is located almost in the center of the prefecture and was formed in 2004 by the merger of Tohaku Town and Akasaki Town. Local specialties, such as local sake, 20th Century pears, and beef, are produced thanks to the beautiful waters of the Daisen Falls, selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls, the Seisen Spring, and Tennozu Water, which are closely associated with Emperor Godaigo. These products have been highly praised at national competitions. Kotoura Town, Tohaku District, is home to many historic sites and famous places where you can feel the history of the area, including the ruins of the Saio Temple, a designated special historic site, and the Hoki Great Shii Tree, a designated national natural monument. The Akasaki Pier Festival, held every July, boasts a 50-year history and attracts many tourists every year, with 3,500 fireworks launched from the pier.
