About Hino Town
Hino Town, Hino District, Tottori Prefecture, located in the southwestern part of the prefecture, is known as the town of mandarin ducks. Mandarin ducks fly to the Hino River for about six months each year, from autumn to spring. In some years, over 800 ducks can be seen up close from an observation hut. The mandarin duck is designated as the town's bird and beloved by local residents. Hino Town's tourist attractions include Kanemochi Shrine, the only shrine in Japan with an auspicious name, and Choraku-ji Temple, which houses a nationally designated Important Cultural Property. Local specialties include firm-fleshed sweetfish caught in the Hino River, Kanemochi soy sauce named after Kanemochi Shrine, Kanemochi miso, and Kanemochi sake, a sacred sake offered to the shrine.
