About Fuchu City
Fuchu City borders seven cities in Tokyo and is the third most populous city within the capital. Despite being located almost in the center of the city, it boasts an abundance of natural beauty, including mountains, rivers, and parks. Beautiful cherry blossoms and autumn foliage can be enjoyed along the zelkova-lined streets of Baba Daimon, the banks of the Tama River, and Fuchu Park Street. Agriculture is also practiced here, with shiitake mushrooms, komatsuna (Japanese mustard spinach), eggplants, and cucumbers being cultivated. Local specialties include Tamagawa pears and monaka (bean-jam monaka). Tourist attractions include Okunitama Shrine, known for its "Kurayami Festival," featuring Japan's largest taiko drumming, and Mount Asama, at an elevation of 800 meters. Musashino Kisuge grows wild on Mount Asama, and Mount Fuji can be viewed from the summit.
