About Sumida Ward

Sumida Ward in Tokyo is a ward where many businesses were established along the Sumida River. The atmosphere of a traditional downtown area still remains, and in recent years, with the construction of Tokyo Skytree, a new landmark in Tokyo, the area, including the nearby Solamachi, has become bustling with tourists. Ryogoku, famous for sumo wrestling, is also located here, and you might pass sumo wrestlers while strolling through the downtown area. While Tokyo may give the impression of being lined with skyscrapers, this is a traditional downtown area where you can experience the warmth of the local people. If you want to experience this traditional downtown atmosphere even more, we recommend a visit to the Edo-Tokyo Museum. You'll be able to experience firsthand the history and lifestyle of the area spanning 400 years since the Edo period.
