Located near the center of Tokyo, Kiyose City is blessed with a natural environment. 40% of the area is green space, and many natural parks are scattered throughout the city. Agriculture is the main industry, with spinach, carrots, and other vegetables being cultivated. These are used to make jam, and the city is actively developing its own brand using local ingredients. Kiyose City once had many research facilities as sanatoriums for tuberculosis patients. Even today, remnants of this past mean that the city is known nationwide as a medical city. With the National College of Nursing and Meiji Pharmaceutical University as its home, the student population is large, supporting future leaders.
