About Awa City
Awa City, located in the northeastern part of Tokushima Prefecture on the north bank of the Yoshino River, is a relatively new city formed in 2005 by the merger of four towns. It enjoys a warm climate and is blessed with beautiful nature, stretching across mountains and rivers. The Awa Dochu, a national natural monument, is a stunningly beautiful sight. It borders Kamiita Town to the east, Mima City to the west, Yoshinogawa City to the south, and Kagawa Prefecture to the north. Long ago, it flourished as a transportation hub, and even today, it remains an important transportation hub, connecting the Tokushima Expressway, the Tonari Interchange, and national highways. Popular tourist spots within the city include the Dochu Recreation Village Hot Springs, Yoshinogawa Kakihara Weir, and the Tonari History Museum. Festivals such as the Yakuoji Shrine Spring Festival and the Gosho Tarai Udon Festival are also held here.
