Anan City, Tokushima Prefecture, is located in the eastern part of the prefecture, adjacent to Komatsushima City and Katsuura Town, Katsuura District. The city is rich in nature, including mountains, the sea, and rivers, and is home to many islands. The city was founded in 1958. Specialties of the region include bamboo products, early-season rice, and tofu. It is also the largest producer of bamboo shoots in the country. Tourist attractions include the Tairyuji Ropeway, which crosses mountains and rivers, and Tairyuji Temple, located at the top of the ropeway. The area is also home to several ruins and ancient tombs. It also boasts many scenic natural sites, including Cape Gamoda, Tachibana Bay, and the fiddler crabs of the Ogata tidal flats. Events such as the Anan Marine Festival are held in the area.
