Shimizu Town, Sunto District, Shizuoka Prefecture, is blessed with beautiful, clear waters, with the spring-fed Kakita River flowing through the center of town. Rice cultivation thrives in the plains, creating idyllic rural landscapes. National Route 1 runs through the northern part of the town, and commercial facilities such as restaurants and shopping centers, as well as residential areas, have been developed along the route. In recent years, the town has become a commuter town for Numazu City and Mishima City. Tourist attractions in Shimizu Town include the Kakita River Springs, selected as one of Japan's 100 Famous Waters, and Kisegawa Hachiman Shrine, said to be the place where Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Minamoto no Yoritomo met. One of the town's specialties is green rice, a rare, ancient rice variety. It is attracting attention as a nutritious, healthy rice.
