About Kawazu Town
Kawazu Town, Kamo District, is located in the southeastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture, on the eastern coast of the Izu Peninsula. Most of the town is made up of mountains, forests, and fields, with the urban area spreading out on the flat land downstream of the Kawazu River. The town is blessed with abundant nature, including the sea, rivers, and hot springs. The town boasts the Kawazu Seven Waterfalls, formed by the clear streams flowing from Mount Amagi, Imaihama Beach, and seven hot springs within the town. The town is also known as a flower town, with iris cultivation since ancient times and carnation cultivation, taking advantage of the warm climate. In February, the entire town is covered in cherry blossoms in full bloom. Nanzenji Temple, located within the town, houses many prefecturally designated cultural assets, including a seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai from the early Heian period and a standing statue of Jizo Bodhisattva from the mid-Heian period.
