About Fujinomiya City
Fujinomiya City is located in the eastern part of Shizuoka Prefecture. Mount Fuji, a World Heritage Site, lies to the north, attracting many tourists. Half of the city is within the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, and the Asagiri Plateau stretches out to the north. The surrounding area is home to natural tourist attractions, including Shiraito Falls, one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls. In ancient times, the city flourished as a temple town for the Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha Shrine, and also served as a post town on the Nakamichi Highway. The city's name is said to come from the former name of the shrine, Fujinomiya. The climate is relatively warm, with little snowfall. The city is home to the Fujinomiyaguchi trail, one of the Fuji climbing trails, making it a popular destination for climbers.
