About Fuji City
Fuji City in Shizuoka Prefecture has long been known as a paper-making town. Even today, there are many paper mills here, and it is the number one producer of toilet paper in Japan. A famous tourist spot is the "Kan-tsutsumi" embankment, which is said to have been built during the Edo period. It is now a city-designated historic site. The city is famous for its festivals, including the "Bishamonten Festival," one of Japan's three largest Daruma fairs. It is a spectacular festival that attracts many spectators not only from within the prefecture but from all over the country. The "Yoshiwara Gion Festival," Yoshiwara's most traditional festival, is also popular. In Fuji City, "Fuji Tsuke Napolitan" has been promoted as a B-grade gourmet dish, and is becoming a hot topic both within and outside the city.
