Matsue City in Shimane Prefecture is located almost in the center of the San'in region and is the prefectural capital. It has long been known as a water town blessed with numerous bodies of water, including Lake Shinji, Horikawa River, and Lake Nakaumi. The southern part of the city borders the lush green mountains of the Chugoku Mountains, allowing visitors to feel a sense of nature even within the city. The Matsue Suigo Festival Lakeside Fireworks Display, held in August in Matsue City, is popular for its romantic scene of fireworks shot diagonally into the sky and reflected on the water's surface, attracting many spectators from both inside and outside the city every year. Specialties include clams caught in Lake Shinji and sea bream raised in the rough waves of the Sea of Japan, both of which are famous nationwide. Recently, Matsue has also been actively promoting Matsue ramen, a dish characterized by its clam soy sauce flavor.
