About Yoshiga Town
Yoshiga Town, Kanoashi District, was formed in 2005 through the merger of two towns and villages. It borders two towns and villages in Shimane Prefecture and three cities in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Takatsu River flows through the town, and fish such as sweetfish, sculpins, and mitten crabs are available. The 600-year-old Oidani rice terraces have been selected as one of Japan's 100 best rice terraces, and produce high-quality rice. Local specialties include butterbur miso, wasabi pickles in soy sauce, raw konjac, and pounded rice cakes. In spring, Miroku Park's 300-year-old weeping cherry blossoms bloom, attracting many tourists. Other tourist attractions include the Stone-built Tomb, the Former Domen Residence, and Hiratochi Falls. The unique festival "Manzairaku" involves eating a 24-centimeter-high mound of white rice.
