Yasu City was formed in 2004 through the merger of two towns. Located in southern Shiga Prefecture, it lies south of Lake Biwa. Its proximity to Osaka and Kyoto and the JR Tokaido Line make it a popular commuter town. The region enjoys a warm, mild climate with little rainfall, making it pleasant year-round. Myokoji Temple and Mount Kagami tower in the southeastern part of the city, surrounded by lush greenery and a vast lake. Known as the "City of Bronze Bells," the city boasts many historical sites and a thriving tourism industry. Sakurao Historical Park is home to the Kabutoyama Tomb and Maruyama Tomb. Omi Fuji, also known as Centipede Mountain, is a popular destination for hikers. Rice farming is the primary agricultural activity, with fruit and vegetable cultivation also taking place.
