Takashima City is located on the west side of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake. It was formed in 2005 through the merger of several towns. Since ancient times, there have been roads connecting capitals like Kyoto and Nara with the Hokuriku region, and many people have traveled there. Furthermore, there is a road still known as the Saba Kaido (Mackerel Highway) that was frequently used to transport salted mackerel. Heavy snowfall in the winter allows people to live their lives while experiencing the changing seasons. The city's specialties include funazushi (carp sushi), mackerel sushi, and eel, and are popular with tourists. A major tourist attraction is the Kaizu-Osaki cherry blossoms, where visitors can enjoy the scenery of blossoming cherry blossoms in spring.
