About Koga City
Koka City was formed in 2004 through the merger of five towns. Located in southern Shiga Prefecture, it borders Kyoto and Mie prefectures. Surrounded by the Suzuka Mountains and home to the Yasu River and Otodo River, the area is blessed with abundant nature. Long ago, it flourished as a post town on the Tokaido, and historical sites such as Tsuchiyama-juku and Minakuchi-juku still remain. It is also known as the birthplace of the Koka Ninja, a group formed during the Edo period. The city boasts facilities such as the Ninja House and Ninja Village, where visitors can trace the history of ninjas. Tea cultivation is thriving within the city, with Tsuchiyama and Asamiya teas becoming specialty products. Other products include Shigaraki ware, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, and Choju Mochi.
