Hino Town, Gamo District, Shiga Prefecture, is located at the western foot of the Suzuka Mountains in the southeastern part of the prefecture. The town has a rich history, with people believed to have first settled here approximately 12,000 years ago. To preserve this history, culture, and the footsteps of our ancestors, a book titled "The History of Omi Hino" has been published and disseminated nationwide. Tourist attractions in Hino Town, Gamo District, include the Omi Hino Merchants' Museum, where you can learn about the history of Hino merchants, and Blume Hill, where seasonal flowers spread across the Kitayama Hills. Blume Hill is home to grazing cattle and sheep, and visitors can try their hand at sausage making and pottery making. A major local specialty is Hino Vegetable Bread, made with cherry-pickled Hino vegetables, a type of turnip, sandwiched between potato salad and bread.
