In the past, most of Tsurugashima City was covered by fields and rice paddies. However, as Japan entered its period of rapid economic growth, the population began to increase, leading to residential development. Tsurugashima City is home to agriculture, primarily vegetable production, as well as printing and service industries. Famous places include Shirahige Shrine, Tsurugaoka Inari Shrine Tomb, Zennoji Temple, and Takakura Lion Dance. Events include the Cherry Blossom Festival and rain-making rituals. The Suneori Rain-making Ceremony is held only once every four years and is a designated intangible folk cultural asset of the country. The city borders Kawagoe City, Sakado City, Hidaka City, and Moroyama Town, and its city tree is the pine and its city flower is the azalea.
