About Soka City

Soka City is located in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture and is designated as a special city. Located almost in the center of the Kanto Plain, most of the city is lowland, consisting of highlands created by natural levees and backswamps. Settlements have been formed on slightly elevated land. As rice paddies were increasingly converted into residential areas, the area frequently suffered from flooding, but the completion of the Ayase River Floodway dramatically reduced flooding. Soka once thrived as a post town on the Nikko Kaido road, and in more recent times has become a commuter town for Tokyo. While the main industry is tertiary industry, the city also has an industrial park and is thriving with manufacturing. Soka rice crackers are a local specialty.
