About Shiki City

Shiki City is blessed with abundant water resources, with the Shingashi River, Yanase River, and Arakawa River flowing through it. During the Edo period, boat traffic on the Shingashi River was thriving, and the city developed as a commercial city centered around the riverside. The kappa legend is handed down in this city, and many old tales related to kappa have been passed down. As a result, 22 stone kappa statues are located throughout the city, making them tourist attractions. Kappas are also used as the mascot character for the area. Numerous wild birds live in the area, and there are parks and riverside areas dotted with places where you can enjoy birdwatching. Local specialties include steamed rice made with Shiki-grown black rice, bread, sweets, Hata Sakura manju, and local sake.
