About Sayamashi

Sayama City is located in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture. Two Seibu Railway lines run through the city, and it functions as a commuter town for Tokyo. There are several theories about the origin of the city's name, including one that it comes from Sayama tea, a specialty of the Sayama Hills, and another that the word "yama" (mountain) means forest, referring to the scrub forests scattered throughout Musashino, signifying a land sandwiched between forests. The entire city is located on the Musashino Plateau, with the Irumagawa River flowing from southwest to northeast. Manufacturing is the core of the city, and there are two industrial parks, the Kawagoe Sayama Industrial Park and the Sayama Industrial Park, making it Saitama Prefecture's largest industrial city. Agriculture also produces Sayama tea, taro, Iruma burdock, and Iruma carrots.
