Takeo City is located in western Saga Prefecture, halfway between Saga City and Sasebo City. Its topography is a complex mix of lowlands and riverside plains, with the population concentrated in the Takeo Basin in the southeast and the basin in the west. In 2006, the city incorporated two towns, marking a new beginning. Its main industries are agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and tourism. More than 20% of the city's land area is farmland, and agriculture is practiced throughout the city. The tourism industry is centered around Takeo Onsen, which has been in operation for 1,300 years. The Takeo Onsen Tower Gate, designed by Kingo Tatsuno, and the Takeo Onsen New Building are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Furthermore, Sakurayama Park and Mifuneyama Rakuen are famous cherry blossom viewing spots, attracting many tourists in the spring.
