Located almost in the center of Saga Prefecture, Ogi City is known as a charming "Little Kyoto" and beloved for its cherry blossoms, water, and fireflies. Ogi Park has been selected as one of Japan's 100 Historical Parks, and the park's "Kakumaki" is a must-see. The beauty of the spring cherry blossoms is said to have reached the ears of the Imperial Court. Night cherry blossoms lit up by lanterns are also popular, drawing many visitors during the season. Many fireflies can be enjoyed along the Gion River from May to June. Saga nori seaweed, cultivated in the Ariake Sea, is considered the best in Japan in both quality and quantity and is a popular souvenir among both locals and tourists. Other famous Ogi specialties include carp sashimi, carp soup, and other carp dishes made with carp swept into a pure stream selected as one of Japan's 100 best waters.
