About Arita Town
Arita Town, Nishimatsuura District, is located in western Saga Prefecture, bordering Nagasaki Prefecture from the southwest to the south. 70% of the town's area is covered by forests and mountains. In 2006, the former Arita Town and the former Nishiarita Town merged to form the new Arita Town. Blessed with beautiful rural scenery, including rice terraces and the Kurokami Mountain Range, the town has long been known as a pottery town. Porcelain production began in earnest under the Saga Domain, and a prosperous townscape called Arita Senken formed in the valley. This townscape still retains its original appearance, and is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Historic Buildings, making it a popular tourist spot. This charming town offers both delicious food from rice grown in the rice terraces and Arita ware.
