About Omachi Town
Omachi Town, Kishima District, is located in the central part of Saga Prefecture, bordering Kohoku Town to the east, Takeo City to the west, Shiroishi Town to the south, and Taku City to the north. Thanks to its convenient transportation location, many people commute to Fukuoka City, and it also serves as a commuter town for the city. A series of mountains, including the town's symbol, Hijiri-dake, line the northern part of the town, and the urban area is located north of National Route 34. The southern side is flat and dotted with agricultural settlements. The town's main industries are agriculture and livestock, producing rice, wheat, cucumbers, strawberries, and livestock such as chicken. The town once flourished as a coal-producing region, thanks to the presence of the Kishima Coal Mine within the town. Places within the town, such as the Doi Family Residence and Hijiri-dake Observatory, are popular tourist spots.
