Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, borders Saga City, Imari City, Fukuoka Prefecture, and Nagasaki Prefecture. Located in the northwestern part of the prefecture, facing the Genkai-nan (unfortunate landslide). It merged with several towns and villages in 2005 to form its current state. It is a place rich in nature, with rivers like the Matsuura River and mountains like Kagamiyama. Its comfortable summers are not too hot and winters are not too cold. Local specialties include Karatsu horse mackerel, Karatsu mackerel, and greenhouse-grown onions. Karatsu ware, a traditional Japanese craft, is made here. The area is home to Kannon Falls and Mikaeri Falls, both of which have been selected as one of Japan's 100 best waterfalls. The city's industries include fruit cultivation, manufacturing, and tourism.
