Genkai Town, Higashimatsuura District, is located in the northwest of Saga Prefecture, facing the Genkai Sea from north to west. This beautiful ria coastline is designated as Genkai Quasi-National Park. The town's downtown is located in the central inland area. The town has a mild climate due to the influence of the Tsushima Warm Current, with little temperature difference. The town's main industries are agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, and it is one of the leading fishing grounds in the country. There are many natural reefs offshore, and large catches of red sea bream, yellowtail, and squid are landed. In addition, red sea bream, pufferfish, and abalone are farmed along the coast. Sea urchin and farmed sea bream are among the town's specialties, along with other products such as Ariura manju, Japanese beef, tobacco leaves, and Satsuma mandarins.
