Every May, Sakai City's Naka Ward hosts the Tour of Japan, a bicycle road race. The eight-day event attracts many supporters from all over Japan and the world. The Danjiri Festival is held in autumn, where numerous danjiri floats parade through the city accompanied by the music of taiko drums and flutes. There are also historical sites such as the Goboyama Tomb, the Earthen Pagoda, and Nonomiya Shrine. At the Sofia Sakai Planetarium, you can enjoy the night sky on a giant screen, and stargazing events are held at the rooftop observatory. From April to May, the azaleas at Mizuga Pond bloom in full bloom, creating a vibrant and colorful landscape. Haraike Park also has a gymnasium and training rooms.
