Sayama City, Osaka Prefecture, borders three other cities and is developing as a commuter town. The Nishijogawa and Higashijogawa rivers flow through the city, and there are numerous reservoirs. Among them, Sayamaike Pond is the largest and oldest. The area around Sayamaike Pond underwent a major renovation in the Heisei era, and now features a beautiful promenade. The Sayamaike Museum was built on the north side. In spring, the area is visited by many people as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. The Citizens' Community Village cultivates tropical plants, and also features a squirrel garden and camping facilities. The Amano Kaido, which leads to Mount Amano Kongoji Temple, is a great spot for cycling and hiking and has been selected as one of Osaka's 99 best roads. Agriculture is thriving within the city, and grapes are a local specialty.
