The name Taisho Ward in Osaka City comes from Taisho Bridge. A majority of residents voted for Taishobashi Ward, but the name was deemed too long and was adopted. The ward's flower is the azalea. Surrounded by waterways, the area is frequented by public ferries. There are numerous shopping districts, such as Sansen Shopping Street and Izuo Central Shopping Street, bustling with shoppers. Tourist attractions in the area include Chishima Park, where you can enjoy the natural scenery of the four seasons; Izuo Park, where you can enjoy sports with its baseball field and athletic fields; and Yasaka Shrine, famous for the Gion Festival held in July. Yasaka Shrine, whose main hall is an Important Cultural Property, is visited by many visitors on New Year's Day. There are also many other shrines and temples in the area.
