Miyakojima Ward, Osaka City, is located in the northeast of the city. Since the Meiji era, industrial development has boomed, continuing to this day. At one time, the area was referred to as the "doughnut phenomenon," but the construction of condominiums and other buildings has eliminated this phenomenon. The ward is home to numerous corporate headquarters and commercial facilities, making it a great place for shopping. The Yodo River, which flows from Lake Biwa, runs through the area. Tourist attractions include Buson Park, Sakuranomiya Park, where beautiful cherry blossoms bloom in spring, and the Fujita Museum of Art. The Fujita Museum of Art is a prefectural museum that is open only for three months each spring and fall. It displays many nationally designated cultural properties.
