Shimamoto Town, Mishima County, is located in the northeastern part of Osaka. 70% of the town is mountainous, and it is located where the Katsura River and Uji River converge, making it a town rich in nature. Located halfway between Osaka and Kyoto, and highly convenient, the town's population continues to grow as a commuter town. The Shimamoto Town History and Culture Museum houses many documents that provide a deep insight into the history of the region, and the reception hall of Minase Shrine has been designated a nationally important cultural property. New residential development coexists with landscapes that evoke a deep history, so it's well worth a visit. The town is rich in greenery, making for a very pleasant environment.
